R David Britt

University of California, Davis, CA, United States

R. David Britt received his B.S. in Physics from North Carolina State, and his Ph.D from the University of California Berkeley, working with Dr. Melvin P. Klein in Melvin Calvin’s Laboratory for Chemical Biodynamics. For his dissertation project he built a high-power pulse EPR spectrometer and used it for the first pulse EPR studies of the Photosystem II oxygen evolving complex. David then took a faculty position in the Chemistry Department at the University of California Davis where he is now the Winston Ko Chair in Science Leadership and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry. His research group uses CW and pulse EPR spectrometers (9 to 263 GHz) to study a variety of chemical and biochemical problems, with a principal focus on metalloenzymes and radical enzymes involved in biological energetics. Davis is a Fellow of the International EPR Society (IES) and the International Society of Magnetic Resonance (ISMAR). He has received the Young Investigator Award and the Gold Medal from the IES, the Russian Academy of Sciences Zavoisky Award, and the Royal Society of Chemistry Bruker Prize.
